Police forces from 26 countries took part in a large-scale operation at Europe's external borders in mid-November. 566 people were arrested and almost a ton of illegal substances were discovered. Agents were also able to seize 22 grenade launchers.
Police services are increasingly working together when it comes to limiting the organized crime. Europol's collaborative action, the EMPACT joint Action Days in Southeast Europe, yielded great results. The EU's external borders were, among other things, more intensively controlled to increase the chance of being caught.
Mega control action against drug, human and arms trafficking
In total, action was taken in 26 countries, including countries outside the EU member states such as Bosnia, Moldova, Albania and Macedonia. Mega checks were carried out both offline and online. 566 people were arrested, of whom 218 on suspicion of human smuggling, 186 for drug trafficking and 69 for arms trafficking. A large quantity of drugs was discovered and more than 2200 people wanted to cross the border illegally, media write.
