Cultivation-of-cannabis

Bio Cannat, the first Moroccan cooperative authorized to market and export cannabis and products for industrial and medical use, started building its first laboratory last week.

Morocco passed bill 2021-13 in 21, placing the North African country on a growing list of countries in Africa that prohibit the use of weed for medical and therapeutic purposes.

Cannabis lab

Bio Cannat confirmed the news to Morocco World News (MWN) today, stressing that it is about the construction and not the opening of the laboratory. Earlier this week, various Moroccan and international media falsely reported on a first laboratory for medical and industrial use of marijuana. Bio Cannat denied that information, telling MWN that the much-discussed statement related to "the start of construction work and not the opening."

In a statement, Bio Cannat stressed that it had obtained approval as part of the ten permits issued by the National Agency for Cannabis Activities in October 2022. The laboratory is being built in the Chefchaouen region. Agricultural experiments will take place with some farmers in the Chefchaouen region. Morocco wants to ensure that the legalization of cannabis for industrial use benefits legal cannabis farmers.
