While the 'old guard' can appreciate an alcoholic snack more and is averse to a pill, it is different with the youth. A survey among 25.000 members of the EenVandaag Opinion panel shows that half of the young people (16-34 years) are not difficult about a few XTC pills per year.
Seven in ten over-35s think that taking a pill is not okay. Many young people up to 34 years old say en masse "YES, to MDMA." No less than 43% indicate that the use of XTC or MDMA is very normal at parties or festivals.

It is striking that alcohol must often be allowed, but drugs are absolutely 'not done' for people over 35. A clear line is drawn between soft drugs and hard drugs. Cannabis use or a joint from time to time does no harm, but if it concerns recreational XTC or cocaine use, then the house is too small. Moreover, as a recreational hard drug user you contribute to organized drug crime, says Rutte. 78% of all participants in the survey agree with this statement.
The respondents included 1000 people who 'did' hard drugs in the past year. It is striking that almost nine out of ten of these recreational users do not think they are perpetuating the criminal drug circuit.
Legalization of XTC
But what next? Almost half of the young people sometimes use recreation pills. And it is also allowed to turn a blind eye. Then why not legalize it? Currently, the legalization of cannabis, with the weed test, is being examined. A majority (60 percent) is in favor of fully legalizing soft drugs in the Netherlands. Many people consider the trial of cannabis cultivation regulated by the government to be a good plan (58 percent).
GroenLinks is one of the advocates of legalizing XTC and believes that this should also be regulated by the government. As a matter of course, more than half of the young people see it as sitting. A third of the total number of respondents indicate that they do not want that. And Grapperhaus? It still carries its useless war on drugs.
