Bedrocan, which has been supplying medicinal cannabis to the Dutch government for almost twenty years, is going to expand to Denmark. In the coastal town of Køge, 30 kilometers south of the capital Copenhagen, the Dutch producer is building a new facility where pharmaceutical grade cannabis is grown and packaged.

Growing demand

The main reason for this move is to better meet the growing international demand for Bedrocan's medicinal cannabis products. Under current Dutch laws and regulations, these products are now only available through the Bureau for Medicinal Cannabis (BMC; part of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport). Bedrocan hopes to better meet the availability of its products for vulnerable patients worldwide through this new Danish location. In Denmark, Bedrocan can do business directly with other commercial entities.

The new production facility will comply with the relevant regulatory requirements (GACP and GMP) with the aim of mainly supplying European markets. Bedrocan Danmark will hire about forty employees and will be operational by the end of 2023.

Products

In the facility, several cannabis strains for medicinal use produced including Bedrocan, Bediol and a new variety with a high CBD content. The dried cannabis products are processed as granulate in small and large packaging. For the production of extracts and isolates it is also possible to obtain 'whole plant' cannabis.

Bedrocan in the Netherlands

Bedrocan is an EU-GMP certified producer of standardized medicinal cannabis and supplies exclusively to the BMC. Bedrocan is not involved in the cannabis experiment and does not produce cannabis for the recreational market. Bedrocan's products have been available in the Netherlands on prescription from pharmacies since 2003, as research material or as pharmaceutical raw material for the production of cannabis oil, among other things. Bedrocan currently has two indoor production facilities in the Netherlands (Emmeloord and Veendam), an R&D department and a laboratory (Amsterdam). The expansion to Denmark means a significant increase in production capacity for Bedrocan.
