A medical cannabis distribution service has started on the Isle of Man as part of a year-long trial. Karsons Pharmacy in Onchan was licensed by the government in June to import and deliver the products for 12 months.

medical cannabis will only be available to those with a prescription. There is already a lot of interest in the green medicine. Finally, a service is also available on the island without patients having to go to the mainland.

The outlet, located in Onchan, is the only pharmacy on the island that can fill private prescriptions for medicinal cannabis products. The service, and with it the cannabis trial, has been delayed twice due to issues at the Department of Health and Social Care and the UK Home Office.

Health Minister Lawrie Hooper said he shared patients' frustrations at the delays while the service was being established. Residents can now give their personal prescriptions, but it could take seven to XNUMX working days for the medication to arrive on the island, a government spokeswoman said.

“It is hoped that this delivery time will decrease,” she added. Data from the cannabis trial will be used to assess residents' needs and demand for the products on the island.
