Do you find a strip of ritalin, a pack of study pills or other small amounts of drugs or medication in your son or daughter's room? That is not strange. There is a good chance that they will use these resources to concentrate better while studying. A hype that is very popular among students.

Focusing while studying is not always easy. The game console is beckoning, you want to watch your Neflix series, they are doing odd jobs with your neighbors or your friend keeps applaying. The daily incentives have only increased, which means that many young people are using the means to concentrate. But what is the effect of these resources and do they work?

Ritalin and study pill

The drug Ritalin, which is widely used by people with ADHD, is known to students as a means to improve learning performance. However, the drug has many negative side effects. Especially with people who use it without being bothered by ADHD. Anxiety, insomnia, dizziness, psychoses and even depression can occur. It doesn't sound very positive, but still many students swear to focus on their study work for a few hours. The same applies to the study pill and other pills that are available on the market. The study pill would support concentration and memory.

Sense or nonsense

However, the Nutrition Center and other experts warn about the negative side effects and claim it is 'quackery'. They are often expensive resources that make good money, they warn. Study pills often contain a lot of caffeine and other substances that would improve concentration and energy level. The substances in these pills are often promoted as being better than Ritalin and energy drinks. According to the Nutrition Center, taking such a pill is pointless. “Caffeine makes you a bit more alert, but that's just what a cup of coffee contains. The other substances have simply not been proven to have any effect on your concentration or energy level.” The fact remains that many young people swear by the Study Pill, taking Ritalin or microdosing – taking very low doses of psychedelics or other drugs for better focus and higher grades.
