According to data published in the journal Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research, women who frequently consume cannabis are less likely to develop diabetes mellitus.

Researchers from Texas A&M University assessed the relationship between cannabis use and diabetes in a nationally representative sample of more than 15.000 adults.

Cannabis against diabetes

They reported that women who often cannabis who used many were about fifty percent less likely to be diagnosed with diabetes than female non-users. No differences were observed between women who used cannabis only occasionally and non-users.

Researchers did not identify similar results in men. They concluded: “Further studies are needed to investigate the relationship between cannabis use, gender, and diabetes mellitus.”
Several previous studies have shown an association between frequent cannabis use and a lower risk of diabetes in adults, while clinical trial data have shown that THCV administration is associated with improved glycemic control in type 2 diabetics.
