Health Canada, the Canadian health regulator, on Thursday expressed concerns about the large amount of medical marijuana people grow at home. This is evident from figures that show a big jump in the average daily production allowed by healthcare providers.
While doctors may allow registered patients to grow limited amounts for personal use at home, the regulator's findings show that such authorizations had risen to a whopping 36,2 grams by the end of March, from 25,2 grams in October 2018.

Average purchases by registered patients from licensed manufacturers and federal medical vendors stuck at 2,1 grams per month, the data showed. Health Canada is concerned that high daily allowances of home-grown medicinal cannabis could lead to abuse.
"This can undermine the integrity of the system," said the regulator. CBC News reported in October that between July and October, the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) raided dozens of cannabis cultivation operations, the majority of which had personal production permits.
Health Canada's findings show that 43.211 people were allowed to grow marijuana for personal medical use in Canada at the end of September. 377.024 customers were registered as patients.
