Now that many people are confined to their homes, obtaining medicinal cannabis is a crime for many patients. The online delivery service Drizly has found something for that. The company launches Lantern, the first on-demand e-commerce company to deliver cannabis in the Massachussetts.
Although the platform was conceived and started by the Drizly team, the two companies have been separated. Drizly, a Boston-based alcohol e-commerce company, has met Lantern founded a new company to supply marijuana.
Supply of medical cannabis
The company begins supplying cannabis to certified medical patients in Greater Boston. Marijuana retailers for the recreational market cannot yet offer delivery to patients - although that licensing option will soon be available through the Cannabis Control Commission - and are not currently operating during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Orders on Lantern will initially be through Revolutionary Clinics, which operates medical marijuana pharmacies in Cambridge and Somerville. “Lantern is unique in the discretion and convenience of online ordering and home delivery of cannabis to patients in Massachusetts,” said Meredith Mahoney, Lantern's CEO. Yesterday, the company launched the intuitive digital experience, aimed at delivering high quality products at the best prices within an hour.
Recreational user
Mahoney said Lantern is gearing up for recreational e-commerce and delivery as soon as possible under the laws and regulations. Lantern has partnered with medical pharmacies to put their entire inventory online and is designed to help patients find products through simple navigation, questionnaires and test data.
