President of Alvarado is in favor of the bill that would legalize the trade and cultivation of medicinal cannabis and industrial hemp in Costa Rica. Congress approved the production and processing of cannabis for medicinal purposes in October.
In his response, he made it clear that he wanted to sign the bill, but that some adjustments had to be made first. In his statement, he noted:
“I want to say that I medicinal weed support to relieve people with various diseases. I even know loved ones who need it. I also support industrial hemp, as it will help agricultural production and economic recovery. I agree with all these goals and I want to be able to sign this law.”
Technical criteria of policy
The president also wants to see changes in some technical criteria related to the self-consumption and self-cultivation of cannabis. The new bill must not under any circumstances endanger public health and public safety.
Since the legislator is on recess and will not be back until February 7, the final decision of the medical cannabis law and the hemp industry will not be made until after the elections.
