Drugs are a major problem in Europe and worldwide. That is why a lot of money is spent on fighting the illegal trade and sale of drugs: the war on drugs. Despite the enormous amount of money invested, crime and violence around drugs is on the rise. The ports of Rotterdam and Antwerp are huge gateways, through which thousands of kilos of drugs enter Europe every year. Only a very small part of this is intercepted by customs. That is why an increasing group of people in Europe are advocating the legalization of drugs, starting with cannabis and ecstasy. In the Netherlands there is a cannabis experiment in which cultivation is permitted under certain conditions. Luxembourg is the first country in Europe to fully legalize the production, sale and use of cannabis for recreational use.
