drug-burning

Yesterday was World Drug Day. This day has been celebrated since 1988, when the whole world takes a moment to reflect on the negative consequences of use and the fight against illegal drug trafficking.

World Drug Day is celebrated in approximately 100 countries. On this day, the more humane approach to the problem, in which consumers are no longer criminalized and public health is an important driver, is central.

It takes a lot to make a statement drugs destroyed on this day. In Myanmar, authorities burned a huge amount with a street value of 420 million euros. Opium, heroin, cannabis, ketamine and crystal meth went up in flames. There is a lot of attention for problems. During the recently held High Level Security Conference, the subject of drug trafficking was one of the most important. The conference also discussed other aspects related to illicit drug trafficking, including the transfer and transportation of large sums of money.

Different view on drugs

The war on drugs worldwide is not leading to the desired result. Transports are bigger than ever and sewage surveys show demand and usage are huge. Violence and crime by organized crime are on the rise in society. The underworld and the upper world are increasingly intertwined and undermining is a major problem. Many countries recognize that efforts to prevent and a more humane approach are desirable. This is to protect public health.

There is also a change visible in the legalization of drugs and the positive side of various substances. Many countries have legalized cannabis and many places are looking into legalizing psychedelics for medical use. Certain cannabinoids have also taken off worldwide. It remains with much anecdotal evidence to date, but there is no question that many people benefit from it. How far will these developments go and will hard drugs ever become legal in the fight against organized crime? In any case, the fact that the only negative stigma surrounding certain substances is changing is positive.
