A study published in the Journal of Neuroscience Research found that people who regularly use cannabis tend to have a better understanding of the emotions of others.

This is evident from psychological assessments. Brain scans also showed that cannabis users' anterior cingulate cortex – a region generally affected by cannabis use and linked to empathy – had stronger connectivity with brain regions associated with sensing the emotional states of others in one's own body .

The study involved 85 regular users and 51 non-users who underwent psychometric testing. A subgroup of 46 users and 34 non-users underwent MRI examination.

Cannabis and social interactions

“These results open an exciting new window for investigating the potential effects of cannabis in supporting treatments for conditions that involve deficits in social interactions, such as sociopathy, social anxiety, and avoidant personality disorder, among others,” said co. -author Víctor Olalde-Mathieu, PhD, from the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México.
